Tireless hearing before the European Court of Justice

An oral hearing into the HMS Tireless episode opened yesterday before the European Court of Justice.

The Commission takes the view that the British Government failed to inform Gibraltar of a possible radiological emergency during the repairs on Tireless. The Commission also argues that the placement of an emergency plan in the local library is not sufficient.

Britain rejects the view that the Euratom Treaty required to take any action beyond that taken at the time. France supported Britain in its position.

Meanwhile Greenpeace called for Britain to stop nuclear submarine movements to Gibraltar.
