Montedeoca invited to GTB workshop in Barcelona

Gib targets Spanish tourism

Gibraltar Tourist Board (GTB) will be hosting a destination exhibition and workshop in Barcelona on Wednesday October 5th 2005, starting at 2.00 p.m., a Gibraltar Government spokesman said yesterday.

And Mancomunidad president Juan Montedeoca has been invited to attend.

Minister for Tourism Joe Joe Holliday said:

“Events such as this are particularly important, as they allow us to generate interest in Gibraltar in the travel industry in Spain and in the specialised Spanish travel press. They give us an opportunity to portray an accurate picture of the wide range of tourism products that we offer.”

At the event proper, a large number of Spanish travel agents and representatives from the Spanish media will have an opportunity to meet members of Gibraltar’s travel and tourism industry.

Guests will be invited to a presentation by the GTB team followed by a snack lunch during which participants will be able to discuss business opportunities with members of Gibraltar’s tourism industry in an informal one-to-one basis.

Mr Holliday continued:

“This type of initiative brings the Gibraltar tourist product closer to the agents and, through them, to their customers. Our ultimate aim is to position Gibraltar as a leading destination in the short break holiday market in Spain. Barcelona is important in this regard, as it generates a large part of Spain’s business and leisure tourism.

I am delighted with the advance response from travel agents that will be participating, and am greatly encouraged by the level of support that the GTB is receiving from the tourism industry in Gibraltar for this event.”

Meanwhile individual tables will be provided so that all those attending as exhibitors can meet the Spanish travel industry members and conduct their business effectively.

The event is designed to generate increased awareness in Spain of Gibraltar as a tourist destination, and it follows on the success of the destination exhibition held in Madrid earlier this year.

The Mancomunidad de Municipios of the Campo de Gibraltar has also been invited by the Government to host a table at the workshop, and President Juan Montedeoca has said that he will be visiting the event personally.
