Tobacco smuggling case

A Gibraltarian man has been fined £10,000 at the Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to unlawful transportation and attempting to export a total of 290,000 cigarettes, valued at £11,600, through the frontier into Spain.

Kenneth Albert Neale of 4/6 Cumberland Steps had been stopped by Gibraltar Customs officers at Four Corners on August 18th of this year, as he attempted to drive into Spain in a refrigerated truck.

The cigarettes were found concealed in cavities in the roof and walls of the vehicle.
