Companies seek Algeciras Ferry like business

Government has received formal and informal proposals as regards the establishment of a Gibraltar-Algeciras ferry.

But there have not been formal applications submitted, it emerged in a reply to a question from Dr Joseph Garcia.

Joe Holliday, DTI minister said that written and oral proposals had been made by a Gibraltar-Spain consortium and a Gibraltarian company respectively. He confirmed that Gibraltar would authorise its side of the operation and Algeciras its side.

However it was confirmed that whilst Algeciras is very interested and has conducted an assessment of logistics, it has to have clearance from Madrid before a link is authorised for operation.
