This land is our land, Caruana tells National Day

Chief Minister Peter Caruana, was greeted with loud cheers and some noticeable jeers as he delivered an upbeat National Day speech to a large crowd in Casemates on Saturday.

The backbone of the address was the obligatory defence of Gibraltar’s right to self-determination, an unavoidable message that was echoed by every other speaker at the rally.

The thousands who gathered in Casemates for Saturday’s National Day rally were treated to the sight of 30,000 red and white balloons being swept by northerly winds straight into Spain.

The politicians had used rousing words to highlight the political importance of National Day, but the balloons rammed home the message of defiance in a tangible, physical way.
