Spaniards arrested at the border

A group of Spanish friends came up with an innovative plan to cross the frontier into Gibraltar after realising that one of their number did not have his ID card on him: they hid him in the boot of the car.

But local immigration officers rumbled the men as they drove across the border on Tuesday evening.

Instead of a pleasant shopping trip on the Rock, they all ended up locked in the cells at New Mole House.

The Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) said yesterday that it had arrested four men for attempting to deceive an immigration officer.

The men were held in custody for several hours but were subsequently cautioned and released without further charge.
