Phoenix and Quaterdeck burglary cases before Court

A man appeared in the Magistrates' Court yesterday in connection with a recent burglary at the Phoenix Snacks shop in Governor's Street.

Salim Mabrouk, born in 1978 and of no fixed address, allegedly smashed one of the windows of the shop and stole £85 and 60 Euros.

The case was adjourned for one week and Mr Mabrouk, who is charged with one count of burglary, was remanded in custody.

Officers from the Royal Gibraltar Police's (RGP) Criminal Investigation Department arrested him last week as part of Operation Donegal, which is geared to tackling the recent spate of burglaries.

In a separate development, a juvenile was arrested for burglary on the same day that Mr Mabrouk was detained.

The second arrest was in connection with a burglary on September 8 at The Quarterdeck Bar.

According to the RGP, one of the windows to the premises was forced open and about £90 was stolen. The money was later recovered.

The juvenile was charged with one count of burglary and will be appearing before the Juvenile Court on October 5th.
