Man charged with serious offence against child

A local man aged 27 has been charged with a serious offence against a young child alleged to have taken place at a time unknown between August 19 and 20 this summer.

Reporting restrictions apply.

The man, who we are not naming at this stage, was represented by lawyer Stephen Bossino who told Stipendiary Magistrate Charles Pitto that his client completely denies the charge.

The man voluntarily agreed to provide the prosecution with samples including those for which the police were making an application to the court.

The man was granted bail in the sum of £2,000 in his own recognizance and instructed not to approach the child or witnesses named at the hearing.

The case has been adjourned to late next month.
