Helicopter at RAF Gibraltar

A C130 transport helicopter landed at RAF Gibraltar yesterday to take the Governor (Governor Sir Francis Richards) to Morocco to visit the Royal Gibraltar Regiment on Ex Jebel Sahara.

A CBF spokesman said:

Troops preparing to embark on Pumas of 33 Sqn during Exercise Jebel Sahara, a bilateral exercise between the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and the Moroccan Armed Forces in October 2004“The Royal Gibraltar Regiment have been in Morocco for several weeks training with 2nd Brigade Infanterie de Parachutistes from the Moroccan Army.

The Governor will be joined by Commander British Forces, Commodore Allan Adair to watch the Royal Gibraltar Regiment take part in live firing and the mountain warfare phase of the exercise.

Major Colin Risso who was recently awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in Afghanistan and Major John Perez who was awarded the American Bronze Star are both taking part in the exercise.

This year’s exercise is the largest for five years with over 500 troops taking part. Several military aircraft will be transiting between Marrakech and Gibraltar over the next couple of weeks transporting troops to and from the exercise location.”
