Hundreds of people enjoyed low-level air displays and ample fun on the tarmac at last weekend’s RAF Community Day.

According to a military spokesman, at least 6,500 visitors made their way through security checks at the gates to the airfield.

Some of the RAF’s most powerful planes were on display, alongside numerous stalls providing insights into various aspects of the RAF’s activities on the Rock.

Various locally-based RAF sections gave demonstrations of their skills, including an exciting shoot-up between armed guards and two terrorists in a car.

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment was also present, giving young and old alike a chance to handle some of the weapons in its armoury.

There was ample fun for the kids too, with various stalls providing entertainment for all ages.

The money raised during both the Community Day and the RAF concert last week will go to the St Bernadette’s Centre and the RAF Association. The money was still being counted yesterday evening but at 5pm, the total stood at £4,500. “It’ll be going up from there,” the military spokesman said.
