Burglars strike Phoenix shop

A food-store in Governor’s Street was broken into by burglars in the early hours of yesterday morning, an Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) spokesman has confirmed.

Phoenix Snacks was targeted by a gang that has struck in various businesses and shops in the same vicinity right down to Engineer Lane in recent weeks.

The burglars smashed one of the display windows to gain access into the shop and one of them is reported to have cut himself with glass, leaving a trail of blood behind him.

They took the small takings that had been left in the till overnight.

Burglars have been known to operate in the area for some time and there have also been several attempted break-ins at various other premises.

Meanwhile other shops and businesses in the neighbourhood are concerned that they are once again being targeted by burglars, while owners have already expressed their concern at this latest upsurge in crime.

RG Police detectives yesterday took fingerprint samples at Phoenix and are investigating this latest burglary.
