Rock Fire - Two youths granted bail

Rock fire case before court

Two local youths appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with the eastside fire on Saturday.

The two, who are both male and aged 17, are charged with starting the blaze after allegedly firing a distress flare that landed on the slopes and set alight low-lying scrub.

The charge states that they “without lawful excuse destroyed by fire undergrowth on land belonging to the Government of Gibraltar intending to destroy property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed.”

Yesterday they were both granted bail in their own recognisance to the sum £300 each.

The case was adjourned to October 11th.
