Gibraltar's Fair 2005 opens tomorrow

The fairground is almost set. The Gibraltar Fair 2005 will come alive tomorrow as Acting Chief Minister Joe Holliday officially inaugurates it at 8.30pm.

The fair will run to Sunday 28. Once again the week-long traditional event will feature a variety of attractions and rides catering for all ages.

“The Government is pleased to support the Gibraltar Fair,” commented Mr Holliday.

“It is a time when we can come together as a community to enjoy ourselves in the best Gibraltarian manner.

In particular, I would like to thank the many volunteers who will be giving freely of their time, in organising and manning the charity stalls and ensuring that there is quality entertainment for all.”

Despite increases in the price of fairground rides at neighbouring fairs, the cost of rides at Gibraltar Fair will continue to be £1. Car parking for fair goers will be available free of charge, as in previous years, at Naval Ground No 1.

For the younger children there will be rides such as the Mickey Mouse, Scalectrix, the Dragon and the Tren Escoba. For the youth the rides include the Viking Ship, the Whip and the Uve. One of the new attractions this year is a classical merry-go-round.

The fair will also offer tombolas and other side stalls, in particular stalls which are being put up by local charitable organisations.

Insofar as eating and drinking outlets are concerned, there will be four bars with catering facilities at the fairground itself, and a further outlet at the Family Pavilion. The Churros marquee is sure to be popular.

This year there will be entertainment at different levels. A full programme has been prepared for the two pavilions, the Family Pavilion and the Youth Pavilion.

There will be live performances by “Ovation” and “Take Two” together with an evening of “Unplugged” at the Family Pavilion. The CCC Sequence Dance Club will be giving an exhibition dance there. Admission to the Family Pavilion will be free on all nights.

There will also be a series of events at the Youth Pavilion, which will include Foam Parties to Reggeton and Rock Concerts.
