Trafalgar Band Concert

The Trafalgar Band Concert featuring three military bands will be held at the Alameda Gardens Theatre on Thursday evening July 7 2005.

An Australian Royal Naval band is sailing in to Gibraltar on board the HMAS Anzac, returning from the International Fleet Review held last week at Portsmouth to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

A CBF (Commander British Forces)spokesman said:

“The Australian military band will be joined by the Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment and the Rooke Volunteer Band.

The three bands will be playing a variety of military and non-military music including some well-known favourites.

The concert will commence at 8:30 pm at The Alameda Gardens. Tickets cost £5 and can be obtained from Solomon Levy Estate Agents – 3 Convent Place or on the night at the venue.

HMAS Anzac is currently deployed on Northern Trident 2005. By the end of the tour, the ship will have been away from home soil for almost six months.

The ship left Western Australia on 11th March and retraced the steps of the previous ANZACs from 1914, who left the same shores in the convoys to Gallipoli.

One of the most important destinations was Anzac Cove (Turkey) where the ship anchored off the beach for the 90th anniversary Anzac Day commemorations. En route, the ship journeyed through the Suez Canal, stopping off at Alexandria and Crete before arriving in Turkey.

Following this, Anzac visited Europe and the UK and has participated in celebrations of the Festival of the Sea and the 200th anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar.”
