TGWU and Prospect overcome ‘misunderstanding’

TGWU/ACTS and white collar union Prospect yesterday issued a joint statement to patch up their relations after last week’s scathing attack on Michael Tampin in a statement sent from Transport House in the name of Luis Montiel.

The joint statement said:

“TGWU/ACTS and Prospect Unions acknowledge the fact that it was not District Officer Luis Montiel who issued the press statement from Transport House in the Gibraltar Chronicle on Saturday 2nd July 2005, attacking in public, Prospect’s Branch Secretary, Michael Tampin.

TGWU/ACTS and Prospect agree that the misunderstanding arises from the fact that it should have been a joint press release on Friday 1st July 2005, not Prospect’s sole responsibility to publicly thank all political parties, trade unions, social organisations, activists and the general public for supporting last Wednesday’s successful and massive demonstration against the Ministry of Defence privatisation plans.

TGWU/ACTS and Prospect further agree that in future any inter-union disagreements will not be aired in the media. It is agreed by TGWU/ACTS that Prospect is a serious union representing some 1000 members in Gibraltar and both unions are determined to continue working together in the interests of the members they each represent.”
