Sovereignty should not affect Airport negotiations

Spanish PSOE senator Jose Carracao has declared that the Anglo-Spanish wrangle over the sovereignty of the isthmus should not affect the negotiations between Madrid, London and Gibraltar on the shared use of the airport.

Speaking to Europa Press, Sr Carracao said that it was Gibraltarians themselves who wanted the deal “to invigorate their economy.”

Sr Carracao said that to be able to share use of the airport, a formula must be found to neutralise, encapsulate or set aside the controversy over the sovereignty of the isthmus. He added that by doing this, it would be possible to utilise the 1987 airport agreement as a base.
