Football shirt charity success

Football fans from around the Rock have donated over 200 Football Shirts as part of the Radio Five Live’s Football Shirt Amnesty.

The Trafalgar Bar and The Toon on the Rock offered to act as collection points and BFBS Radio and RAF Gibraltar organised for the shirts to be flown to England in a military Hercules aircraft.

Last year over 50,000 Football Shirts were donated from around the UK and sent to football enthusiasts in Africa who are unable to afford their own shirts.

Wes Tompson from BFBS Radio in Gibraltar says:

“This is the first time that Gibraltar has taken part. The response has been really encouraging. It is great that radio stations, British military personnel and the general public can work together to bring so much happiness to kids in Africa.”
