RGP urges safety at sea

Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) has launched its Sea Safety campaign for the Summer season 2005.

A ‘Safety at Sea’ booklet has been prepared and has intitially been sent to all Jet Ski registered owners in Gibraltar.

The intention of the Sea Safety campaign is to set out a coordinated set of measures aiming to ensure the safety of both boat users and swimmers around our coastline, with particular attention being paid to the area off our beaches. This will be done in the weeks leading up to the start of the bathing season on June 11 2005.

A strict enforcement campaign will also take place in order to ensure that boat users abide by our laws in relation to the use of mechanically propelled vessels at our beaches.

Boat owners are reminded that although the official bathing season starts on the 11th, June the restriction of entering within the regulated area (100 metres from the shoreline) continues all year round and this will be enforced for the safety of bathers and boat users alike.
