Ministry warning on false declarations

Ministry for Social Affairs has reminded recipients of social benefits that they must report changes in their personal or financial circumstances to the department concerned.

A Gibraltar Government spokesman said:

“Three persons were arrested last week on suspicion of obtaining social benefits through false representation.

The arrests came about as a result of a joint operation between the Royal Gibraltar Police Financial Crime Unit and the Department of Social Security.

Members of the public in receipt of social benefits are reminded that knowingly making false declarations to obtain financial benefits is a serious offence.

Claimants are therefore advised to immediately report any changes in personal or financial circumstances to the Department of Social Services.”
