GTB appointed to Tourist Lobby Group

Gibraltar Tourist Board in London has been elected to the management Board of ANTOR, the Association of National Tourist Office Representatives.

A GTB spokesman said:

“The association was formed in 1952. Its primary objective is to be recognised as one of the foremost advocates of responsible tourism and to comment on a wide range of issues affecting worldwide travel and tourism. Antor provides a fraternal forum for its members to meet and exchange ideas, and to forge close relationships with all other sectors of the travel industry. Critical to the work of the Association is its ability to lobby on behalf of its members.

Last year ANTOR successfully challenged World Travel Market on a number of issues including unreasonable pricing and the over-long duration of the show. The united force of ANTOR members will be used to lobby a range of travel trade and consumer exhibitions in the future.

In an industry where consumers are increasingly booking their own itineraries the promotion of a destination becomes paramount and Antor seeks to promote its information services and those of its individual members as a first point of call for journalists and the public."

Commenting on the Tourist Board’s appointment Minister for Trade and Industry Joe Holliday said:

“This is a very beneficial appointment for Gibraltar. Antor is a valuable forum in today’s evolving tourism industry, and this is a tremendous opportunity for Gibraltar to play an active role in the discussion of policies affecting world tourism.”

The newly elected Board comprises Luxembourg (Chair) Belgium (joint Vice Chair) Tunisia, (joint Vice Chair), Cyprus (Treasury), Korea, Morocco, Gibraltar.
