Gibraltar lobby in Commons to meet Reid

All Party Parliamentary Group in the House of Commons is seeking a meeting with Dr John Reid, Defence Minister, (ed's note: Actually he is Secretary of State for Defence!) to discuss the MOD plans for contractorisation.

The group has just reconstituted following the General Election. A well attended meeting saw Lindsay Hoyle (Labour) re-elected as chairman and joined by Eleanor Laing (Conservative) Simon Hughes (Lib Dem) and David Crausby (Labour) elected as vice chairman. Mike Penning (Conservative) is the secretary and Baroness Hooper is the treasurer.

In addition to those present 35 MPs had written to express their wishes to join the group. “This is one of the strongest groups in parliament,” said Mr Hoyle who has confirmed that they will be seeking to meet with the Governor, Chief Minister and Opposition Leader for a full briefing on Gibraltar issues.

Albert Poggio at the GIB (Gibraltar International Bureaux has already briefed the group this week.
