Opera in Town!

St Michael’s Cave will be the venue tomorrow night for the opera extravaganza organised by the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society.

The programme will include operatic arias, duets and popular songs from Don Carlos, La Bohème, Lakmé, Rigoletto, Carmen, La Giocond, and La Traviata.

The evening will feature four new soloists already being singled out in the world of opera: Olga Mykytenko, soprano; Nadia Krasteva, mezzosoprano; Valter Borin, tenor; and Darren Perry, Baritone. They will all be accompanied by Jendrik Springer on piano.

The concert is sponsored at Barclays Bank PLC and will start at 8.30pm.

Three of the singers and the pianist arrived on the Rock yesterday and have been rehearsing at the Convent Ballroom. Arriving today is Krasteva.

Tomorrow night’s concert follows the success of last year’s opera concert at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The Society has decided to repeat the formula with relative newcomers performing famous songs accompanied by a pianist.

Tickets are £12 each and are on sale at the House of Sacarello and Solomon Levy, Estate Agents. The price includes a return shuttle service departing from Ince’s Hall from 7.30 pm.
