Chichon is Chief Conductor of the Graz Symphony Orchestra

Kare Mark Chichon elected Chief Conductor of the Graz Symphony Orchestra in Austria
Local conductor Karel Mark Chichon has been elected Chief Conductor of the Graz Symphony Orchestra in Austria.

His appointment is as from the season 2005-6. The appointment was decided at the general meeting of the Artistic Council of the Graz Symphony Orchestra earlier this month, following Chichon’s highly successful appearances with the orchestra, in two subscription concerts during the present season.

Maestro Chichon follows in the footsteps of one of the leading conductors of our times, Italian Maestro Fabio Luisi, who was Chief Conductor of the orchestra from 1990 to 2000.

The Graz Symphony Orchestra enjoys a fine reputation within Austria. Their roster of soloists and conductors are amongst the finest in the country. The orchestra’s home is the famous Grazer Stefaniensaal, where they perform all their concerts. This concert hall is renowned all over the world for its brilliant acoustic and for the many famous artists that perform there all year around.

Maestro Chichon will be responsible for the general artistic content of the 2005-6 and 2006-7 seasons, which will include some of the greatest names in opera and concert, including opera stars Neil Shicoff, Michael Schade, Cecilia Bartoli, Elina Garanca, Leo Nucci, Franz Grundheber, violinist Baiba Skride, pianist Rudolf Buchbinder and conductor Christopher Hogwood.
