Budhrani made unfortunate mistake says Reform Party

The Reform Party has declared that House of Assembly Speaker Haresh Budhrani has made an unfortunate mistake by declaring his enthusiasm for the GSD (Gibraltar Social Democrats).

“As an individual Mr. Budhrani is obviously entitled to have his own views about politics or anything else. However, as Speaker he should be very careful about what he says publicly and how it can be construed,” said party leader Lyana Armstrong-Emery.

“The parallel he quotes of the UK parliament doesn’t really apply here. Yes, Speakers in the House of Commons do come from party-political backgrounds as MP’s. However, once appointed Speaker, they are supposed to maintain and project strict impartiality. I hope that our own Speaker will do so in future.”
