Voice of Gibraltar Group (VOGG) has condemned what it says is the insensitivity of the MoD in closing the road across the frontier for an extended period at a peak traffic period.

"Although safety is a prime concern, surely more thought and consideration must be employed, given the ‘importance’ of Gibraltar to British Forces, which is frequently expressed in words, although otherwise quickly forgotten.”

Following the previous air exercise, which caused severe disruption to traffic flow, and the subsequent apologies, it shows either bad planning, or indifference that the road is shut for an hour for a single aircraft, they said.

It is understood the issue was raised with MoD at official level following Monday’s long delays caused by Nimrods using the runway.
