Protest at US ship presence

USS Gonzalez - Named after Sergeant Alfredo Cantu Gonzalez winner of the Congressional Medal of Honour and many other decorations
Ecologistas en Acción yesterday protested at the presence in Gibraltar of the USS Gonzalez because they said it could be carrying nuclear cargo.

The ecologists’ spokesman Antonio Muñoz complaied that the Mancomunidad was striking a tourism pact with Gibraltar when “a cargo of nuclear arms can hardly be a tourist attraction.”

The US guided missile destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) arrived here for a port visit, after crossing the Atlantic Ocean on the beginning of its six month deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
