MEP to meet Ingram on cuts

Glyn Ford, Labour MEP for Gibraltar, will meet with Adam Ingram, Minister of State for the Armed Forces, tomorrow to discuss MoD plans for contractorisation.

This meeting follows the commitment that Mr Ford made, while addressing the GSLP's (Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party) AGM in March, that he will do all in his power to persuade the British Government to reconsider the proposed plans.

"Contractorising jobs in the MoD in Gibraltar has serious and unique implications not only for the people of Gibraltar but for the British government also. Given the lower minimum wage in Spain, jobs are likely to be lost to the Spanish whilst depending on a workforce living on the other side of the border means that the MoD would be severely short-staffed when and if the Spanish government closes the border again," he said.
