Legal action mooted over Sussex

Britain and the US may take international legal action against Spain if it does not agree to allow the recovery expedition for treasure from HMS Sussex to take place.

That was reported yesterday in the Diario de Sevilla which quoted Odyssey company sources.

A vessel believed to be the Sussex which reportedly sank with billions of pounds sterling worth of gold has been located off Gibraltar.

The Junta de Andalucia who are pressing Madrid to take action are said to have been briefed on the operation months ago. They claim Archeological laws are being violated.

The vessel is British and the treasure belongs to the UK under international law. Britain did a deal with Odyssey Marine exploration in which they get a share of the booty.
