Gibraltar Training for Moroccan Soldiers

Moroccan soldiers are in Gibraltar this week working alongside G Company from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment before deploying together on Exercise Jebel Jadeed, a British Forces spokesman said yesterday.

Fifteen Moroccans from the 2 Brigade d’Infanterie Parachutiste (2 BIP) are carrying out weapon handling on the British Army’s Personal Weapon system, the SA80 A2 rifle before live firing with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment in Barry Buddon, Scotland.

The British Forces spokesman added:

“Close links between the two Regiments have been fostered over the last five years with Royal Gibraltar Regiment soldiers deploying to Morocco on Exercise Jebel Sahara.

The next joint exercise is planned for September where members of the Regiment will deploy to Morocco on Exercise Jebel Tarik. This Battalion strength exercise will be supported by Merlin, Chinook and Puma helicopters from 28 Squadron and 33 Squadron RAF.”
