The construction of the Dockyard

Gibraltar Museum has announced the first in its programme of Heritage Talks for 2005, commemorating two anniversaries: 200 years of Trafalgar and 75 years of the Gibraltar Museum.

The first lecture in the series, ‘The Construction of the Gibraltar Dockyard’, by Professor Clive Finlayson, will take place on Thursday 7th April at 2030 hours at the John Mackintosh Hall. A Museum spokesman said:

“In his lecture Professor Finlayson, Head of the Heritage Division, will trace the history and development of the Gibraltar dockyard with specific reference to the events that led to its construction. The construction process, which resulted in extensive tunneling and quarrying, and the impact this had on the environment and on the civil population will also be highlighted.”
