Robinson backs Funicular

Ken Robinson, a member of the Gibraltar Tourism Advisory Council and vice-chairman of the Gibraltar Federation of Small Businesses (GFSB) has come out in support of the funicular project.

Mr Robinson said that Gibraltar must compete in the modern world improving the tourist product and forgetting about “pie in the sky” ideas like populating the Upper Rock with wildlife.

He said Gibraltar faces difficult challenges like the finance centre phase-out over the next few years and the MoD cuts, and said that the future lies in promoting our tourist product.

If we do not take advantage of opportunities to attract inward investment to Gibraltar like the funicular project, the economy is going to die.

He said that Gibraltar’s greatest asset was its history and the Upper Rock and that this was not being used to its full potential, while infrastructure such as roads was collapsing under the weight of heavy traffic in the Upper Rock.
