House meets this morning

House of Assembly meeets this morning at ten to discuss several bills.

Leader of the Opposition Joe Bossano yesterday gave notice to the Speaker that he wishes to raise the question of the announced cut-backs by the Ministry of Defence in Gibraltar on the adjournment of the House.

A GSLP/Libs spokesman said:

"A motion on the adjournment is a parliamentary device which allows for urgent debate on topical, important matters of great public interest. The debate is limited to 40 minutes and there is no vote. Even though the Government has no direct responsibility for defence, the motion will nonetheless allow the House of Assembly to express its view on the matter. Both sides of the House will have the opportunity to express their disapproval at what the Ministry of Defence plans to do.
