Union express concern over possible job losses

Funicular row

A TGWU statement has expressed concern that the new funicular railway “will mean mass redundancies and closure of businesses in the local tourist industry" if the project goes ahead.

The statement comes after the TGWU held meetings with its members in the Cable Car. The Union said the new venture would also have a negative consequence for the livelihood of Upper Rock Tourist Sites Officers and other areas of the industry. The union intend to join groups already opposing the project.
