Red Cross Tsunami: Over half a Million

Gibraltar has raised over half a million pounds for the Gibraltar Red Cross Tsunami appeal fund.

With money still coming in the latest cheque presented to the Red Cross has seen the fund surpass the half a million pound park by over £3,000. The cheque for £3,240 was presented at the PricewaterhouseCoopers offices by one of the partners Edgar Lavarello to Red Cross Treasurer Charles Montegriffo.

The staff of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Abacus Financial Services Limited raised £1620. The partners doubled this amount and contributed a further £1620. Furthermore, PricewaterhouseCoopers globally have doubled the amount raised by each country, donating a further £3240 to the British Red Cross in the UK.

Meanwhile Red Cross Treasurer Charles Montegriffo confirmed that the Tsunami account at Barclays Bank would remain open for at least another month as money was still coming in from the various charity events organised locally some of which still had to happen.

We are very pleased to accept all the donations still to come from all these already planned events which we will pass on to the international account in London,” he said.

But Mr Montgriffo asked that if any member of the public intended to organise any new event or raise any funds they should now consider organising charity events for other charities other than the Tsunami appeal as the target has already been met.
