A Paris encounter for Miss Gibraltar in Miss Europe

Helen Gustafson, Miss Gibraltar 2004, will represent Gibraltar at the Miss Europe 2005 pageant taking place in Paris Saturday 12 March.

Miss Gibraltar 2004 - Helen Gustafson - Good Luck Helen... you're a cracker!Miss Gibraltar sets off on Saturday 12 of this month where she will fly to meet all the other contestants in Djerba in Tunisia where she will be involved in an intensive programme of press calls, photo shoots and filming before returning to Paris on 24 February.

Gibraltar’s last attendance at the Miss Europe Pageant was back in 2002, when Miss Gibraltar 2001 Natalie Monteverde also represented the Rock in Paris.

Chief Executive at the Gibraltar Tourist Board, Peter Canessa told the Chronicle, that since 1998, the GTB had tried to give the opportunity to the reigning Miss Gibraltar to attend another event apart from the Miss World Contest.

For the foreseeable future, it is the GTB’s intention to keep looking out for events to which Miss Gibraltar can attend in addition to Miss World. Some of the past winners, Melanie Soiza, Tessa Sacramento, Luann Richardson and Kim Falzun, have gone to help represent Gibraltar at the FITUR travel fair in Madrid. Miss Gibraltar 1999 Abigail Garcia attended the British Guild of Travel Writers Dinner at the Savoy in London, and Caireen Alcantara 1st princess 1999 attended Miss Tourism World in Malta,” he explained.

“The current Miss Gibraltar, Helen Gustafson, was unable to take part in last year’s Lord Mayor’s Show as she was in China for Miss World so her 1st Princess, Kelly Villalta, took part instead. As Helen was unable to attend this year’s FITUR. Instead, with the help of local sponsorship from the producers of this year’s contest, Stage One Productions and local estate agents P&O Homes, the GTB has been able to send her to represent Gibraltar at Miss Europe.”

The GTB stated in a press release that Helen was thrilled to have been given the chance of representing Gibraltar once again.
