Vivaldis "The Four Seasons" at the Convent Ballroom

Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” featuring the acclaimed German violinist Barbara Doll and The European Sinfonietta will be the next concert presented by the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society for the new season.

The concert will take place at The Convent Ballroom on the 7th February 2005 commencing at 8:30pm.

Expressing his ambivalence at the prevalence of “The Four Seasons” as background music in restaurants and excessive use in film soundtracks a society spokesman said:

The Four Seasons has arguably become the most famous baroque music ever composed. It is a perfect example of Vivaldi’s unique way of writing music; combining expression, rhythm and form in an almost rustic fashion.

On the one hand, the beauty and intricacy of these excellent scores deserves widespread attention. In fact, Vivaldi was all but forgotten until the resurgence in popularity of these four concertos began in the middle of the 20th century. But, they’re just too good to be background, and deserve to be heard above the din of conversation and the dialogue from a movie.

Tickets are priced at £15 each and are on sale at Solomon Levy, Estate Agents and the House of Sacarello as well as on telephone 72134 for credit/debit card purchase.
