Gibraltar Heritage Trust outing

The first event in the Gibraltar Heritage Trust’s programme for this year will take place this coming Saturday 22nd January.

The outing consists of a tour of the South District, led by Richard Garcia. The tour will start at 10:30 am from St. Joseph’s School, South Barracks. The walk will consider some elements of the heart of the old South District in particular, Loquat House (where the Duke of Kent, as Governor of Gibraltar in 1802, kept his lady, Madame de St Laurent) will be visited. This is a historically important property. The tour will also include a visit to Old Naval Hospital, and consider some of the principal military buildings in the heart of the South District. The civil dimension will be represented by St Joseph’s Church, and other important buildings. The perspective will include a series of anecdotes in relation to the South District. Although the walk is primarily for members of the Trust prospective members are also welcome. The walk will last about 2 hours and stout walking shoes are recommended.
